INTERNATIONAL SOLAR ALLIANCE: AN INDIAN GUIDE TOWARDS GLOBAL SDGS
ISA or the International Solar Alliance, was an initiative conceptualized during COP 21 and launched in 2015 as a product of multiple international meetings and the Paris Climate Conference of that year under the leadership and enthusiasm of India and France with the objective of promoting clean solar energy which will in turn reduce Carbon emission and limit the coal consumption worldwide. Today ISA has 116 members and India as a leading face has taken key steps to strengthen solar power domestically today. ISA holds ambitious plans to provide clean power to 1 billion people and to reduce CO2 by 1 billion tons. In light of geopolitics, the current paper examines the visible and potential effects of ISA and explores its implications for India and the rest of the world, particularly at a time when electric and mechanised transportation is replacing petroleum-based transportation and new technologies like sodium ion batteries seem to be on the horizon.
